After 1 year, Simon was in need of a haircut - his bangs kept going into his eyes. So last night we descended upon the little barber shop in Park Slope.
Things started well enough as Mark held Simon in his lap.
But when the barber decided to use the electric razor, the situation quickly deteriorated.
We are happy to report that Simon's hair is quite a bit shorter now and after a spaghetti dinner things were back to normal.
It was a Thanksgiving miracle yesterday evening as Simon took his first steps !
It happened after a delicious Thanksgiving dinner (which included Simon's first taste of ice cream). All the relatives were still here and it was either ice cream courage or everyone cheering him on that helped motivate our little guy to take his first steps. Either way it was great to see!
Simon turned 1 yesterday! I can hardly believe it. The time went so fast (after those initial first few months) .
Mark was home from work yesterday and we enjoyed the day together. After Simon opened his presents (a toy piano and a new book)...
We went to the New York Aquarium. Simon enjoyed seeing the fish, sea turtles, sharks, and walruses.
He then enjoyed some birthday pizza which he loved .
It was a great day!
So what is Simon up to these days (which I am putting down for future posterity )...
Along with his word "anana" Simon also likes singing the "Manha Manha" song from the Muppet Show. I realized this when the song came on the radio and I heard him say "ana, ana, ana, ana." It's pretty funny because he will just start saying it at any time of the day - I guess those "ear worm" songs can affect anyone at any age.
Also, Simon is starting to dislike crawling. He hasn't taken any steps on his own yet but he has taken to cruising along the wall as he sidesteps down the hallway.
It has been an amazing journey these past 12 months. Who knows what the future will bring. We are excited to find out!
Simon surprised us last week with the utterance of his first word! Not surprisingly, it was food related .
Banana, or as Simon likes to say, "anana" is probably one of his most favorite things and if he sees one on the counter or in a book, he's sure to ask for it by name.
Simon's first Halloween proved to be quite fun. We have been celebrating since Thursday when Two Sigma threw their annual Halloween bash for employees and family. Simon dressed as an Ewok for the occasion.
On Halloween, Simon went to his first Park Slope Halloween Parade and enjoyed seeing all the other kids in their costumes.
Simon seemed to enjoy dressing as an Ewok for his first Halloween. Maybe next year he'll grow into a Wookie .
