First Glimpse of the Heartbeat - March 25, 2008 (Susan)

It was another early Tuesday morning appointment. This time Dr. M saw us.
I had another ultrasound and we were delighted to see our baby's heartbeat! It was truly amazing! Dr. M pointed out the gestational sac, the yolk sac and the baby (which is now about .33 cm long). She then focused and steadied the picture and pointed out a slight fluttering of the baby, it was its heartbeat. Dr. M said little Giblet is growing well and looks healthy. Also the blood from last week seems to be gone which is good news.

Here is the picture. Dr. M pointed out that it looks like a "signet ring." The yolk sac is the ring part and Giblet is the gem :) Enjoy!

First Baby Picture - March 18, 2008 (Susan)

Mark and I woke up bright and early to go see Dr. B this morning and it was a great visit.
I had another ultrasound and this time we could see the gestational sac and our baby!
Dr. B also noticed a bit of blood near the gestational sac that will need to be monitored. He said I should take it easy, "don't do any hiking or 8 hour shopping trips." We are to come back next Tuesday for another ultrasound - we might be able to see the fetal heartbeat by then!
In the meantime, here is Giblet's first picture:

Doctor Confirms - March 10, 2008 (Susan)

Mark and I woke up early to be at Dr. B's office between 7 and 9 AM. Dr. B saw us by 8:15.
After explaining that I had a positive home pregnancy test, he did an ultrasound but unfortunately he couldn't see anything, indicating that it was still too early.
He also took a blood test and asked me to call back later today.
We left the doctor's office and headed into work. The day dragged on.
I called at 1:30 PM and finally got the test results.
The blood test was positive. It's official, I'm preggers!!!!
Mark and I are to return next Tuesday for a sonogram. Hopefully we'll get to see giblet then.

The Test - March 8, 2008 (Susan)

My acupuncturist told me that if my BBT temperatures continued to remain elevated, I should take a pregnancy test. So early this morning I grabbed the last First Response stick and headed to the bathroom. I took the test and then went about getting ready. After 30 seconds I noticed a bright pink line but just one line so I figured I wasn't pregnant. I brushed my teeth. I looked again after two minutes and noticed a second light pink line faintly appearing. "WHAT'S THAT?!" It took me quite a while to wrap my head around it and even then I wasn't sure so I woke up Mark and told him "I think I'm pregnant." He said, "What do you mean you think?" :)
We looked at it together and then we were both kind of somewhat sure the test was positive - I could be pregnant.
We think I might be due around Thanksgiving so Mark came up with the nickname "giblet" for the little sea monkey growing inside me.
This is going to be a long weekend. We are going to go to the doctor first thing Monday morning.
